LDS Charities Partners with UNICEF for Tetanus Vaccines

A mother receives a tetanus shot.
"Each year, maternal and neonatal tetanus kills approximately 34,000 newborns. Without hospital care, fatality rates for tetanus can be as high as 100 percent. LDS Charities partners with UNICEF to provide women with a series of tetanus vaccines so that the disease can be prevented. Over the past three years, LDS Charities has donated $3.3 million to help in the fight to eradicate neonatal and maternal tetanus. Since the year 2000, tetanus has been completely eliminated in 43 countries.
Leslie Goldman, Vice President for global cause partnerships, said "We're thrilled that LDS Charities has partnered with UNICEF USA to champion the effort to eliminate MNT and that the entire LDS Church community is supporting critical efforts to parallel this achievement in other countries."
