LDS Charities Presents: An Evening with Ishmael Beah

Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier in Sierra Leone, is now an author and speaker.

LDS Charities is proud to partner with ONErefugee to sponsor storyteller, author, and former child soldier Ishmael Beah in a special presentation on August 17, 2018. Beah will be speaking in the Conference Center Theater (60 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84150) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Guests must be seated by 6:45 p.m.

“We are excited to welcome Ishmael Beah to Salt Lake City to talk about his experience as a child soldier and hear his message of hope and healing,” said Paul Moody, manager of refugee services with LDS Charities. “Utah has a long tradition of welcoming people who are fleeing similar circumstances, and we look forward to hearing his message.”

Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis under the Conference Center. Additional paid parking is available in and around Salt Lake City.

Beah was born in Sierra Leone in West Africa. When he was a young boy, he was separated from his family and forced to join a military group as a child soldier. Though his family was killed, he later escaped and came to the United States. He is the author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier and Radiance of Tomorrow.
