Helping Babies Breathe with the American Academy of Pediatrics

In November of 2016, LDS Charities partnered with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to conduct field tests of Helping Babies Breathe (HBB), 2nd Edition learning materials. The purpose of running the field tests was to ensure that the new learning materials were of a high quality and could effectively transfer knowledge to newborn care trainers and providers.

The American Academy of Pediatrics 2016 LDS Charities Funding Report praised this partnership as “one of the most sincere and meaningful collaborations.” It continues, “Our organizations’ complementary strengths provide us with a greater reach and the ability to have a stronger impact among the constituencies we serve.”

More than 70 experienced HBB facilitators came to Salt Lake City from countries around the world to receive updated training. The training allowed the AAP/HBS Planning Group to develop a practical method for updating the training practices of those previously trained in the curriculum. Many who participated in the trainings have already held additional meetings to help train others.
